Electronic submission guidelinesFull Page Ad Size

Dimensions for full-page* advertisements:
Trim Size: 8.125" x 10.875"
This area will be trimmed off of the page after it is printed.
Bleed Size: 8.5" x 11.3
If you want your image or background to go all the way to the EDGE of your page, then you must make your image AT LEAST this big.
Live Image Size: 7.125" x 9.875"
This is the area in which all your TEXT must fit. If your text goes outside of this area, it is in danger of being HIDDEN in the the binding of the magazine or of being TRIMIMED OFF of the page.

* Note: Fractional ads do not have these same restrictions. Fractional ads should be built to their appropriate sizes. Click here for dimensions.

For ads submitted digitally, please observe the following standards:

Images

  • Scan resolution: 300 dpi or higher.
We do not recommend and cannot guarantee the quality of images from a Web site, digital camera, scan made from a print or photocopy of the original or ANY digital reproduction (including anything made on “Image Magic” paper.)
    • Glossy photos are recommended. Matte finish, prints using electronic methods, and some copyrighted professional photos with reproduction protection do not produce high-quality images.
    • 4" x 6" or larger photos are preferred. We recommend 8" x 10" for a full-page photo.
  • Save black and white scans as grayscale or bitmap images and color scans as EPS or TIFF format with no alpha channels. JPEGs, GIFs and images from the Internet are not accepted. For an explanation of file formats, click here.
  • Save all color scans and graphic elements as CMYK, (not RGB).
  • Faxed or photocopied photos and artwork are not acceptable.
  • We recommend large-scale black and white slicks for logo, or Illustrator® EPS file. Business cards or logos on any color other than a white background are not acceptable.
  • Photos of horses in which the animal’s conformation has been electronically or otherwise manipulated will not be accepted.

Fonts

Do not use menu-styled fonts for bold, italic or bold italic type; use the actual font: for example, use Optima Bold rather than using the Optima font and clicking the "bold" button while having the text selected.

All fonts used must be postscript fonts. True Type fonts are not acceptable in a postscript environment. If True Type fonts are to be used, they must be converted into pixels or outlines and the entire document saved as an EPS or TIFF.

E-mailing ad text

Text supplied via e-mail should preferably be typed into the body of the e-mail message. The subject of the e-mail should reference the ad type. Text attachments should be saved as ASCII text-only documents.

Reminders

Submit materials on time. If materials arrive late, we may not have enough time to notify you about problems and your ad may be printed incorrectly.

If you have any questions, please call or e-mail and ask us. If an ad does not meet the required specifications, the ad may not be printed properly and may not receive a camera-ready discount.

If you’re concerned about meeting the above specifications, you may send in the materials and request that Appaloosa Journal do the design work according to your personal specifications. Design time is included in the price.
