Night Deck

Night Deck

Night Deck first made a name for herself as a champion in the show pen, then went on to create a strong line of champions in the broodmare pasture. She earned her bronze supreme dam production plaque and entered the Appaloosa Horse Club Hall of Fame in 2000.

The mare, bred by Mark Dunham of Kansas City, Missouri, was born April 2, 1986. She resulted from crossing Dee Bee Deck (AQHA) to top-10 World finisher and Goer grandson Mark Me First. Royal T Farms Inc. of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, owned Night Deck for several months in 1989 before Karen Grimm of Minden, Nevada, purchased the mare that same year.

In the halter pen, Night Deck earned 80 points, and registers of merit for aged mares and broodmares. She won the 1991 broodmares World championship and 1995 produce of dam World championship. In non-pro competition, she earned 31.5 points and a register of merit, and stood as aged mares reserve World champion in 1990. She also collected two performance points in heritage.

After her show career, Night Deck became a vital part of Karen’s breeding program. The mare has produced eight foals by top Appaloosa stallions. All of her foals have added to the Appaloosa breed with their talent and versatility. Each has earned halter points (426.5 total), and seven are performance point earners (1,368 total). Combined, they’ve earned five Club championships, three versatility championships, one supreme championship, eight bronze medallions and eight silver medallions. Two of her foals — Recurring Dream (by Dreamfinder) and Knight Of Nights (by Impressive Andrew) — earned a combined seven performance superior event titles.

Night Deck’s 1991 filly, Night Vision (by Dreamfinder), is also a bronze production plaque earner. Both Night Deck and Night Vision are owned by Karen’s Black Horse Ranch. “She was a great show mare and a great producer, but what really stands out is her personality and the air she has about her,” Karen says about Night Deck. “She’s the queen.”
